How to automate it · Google review requests

How to ask for Google reviews, without having to remember.

Happy customers often mean to leave a review. They just aren't asked at the right moment. Automate the Google review request once, and every finished customer gets one short, polite ask.

Why the reviews don't come in

You finish the work. They're pleased. You mean to ask for a review, and then the next customer comes in. By the time you remember, the moment's gone.

Asking in person can feel awkward too. A message that goes out on its own takes the awkward bit away.

Automate the Google review request

  1. Get your review link. In your Google Business Profile, Google gives you a link (and a QR code) that takes customers straight to the review box.
  2. Mark the work done in your client list in Airtable, or let your invoice or booking app do it.
  3. A day later, one short email goes out from your Gmail, with the link. Make joins the steps.
  4. No review after a week? One gentle reminder. Then it stops. Nobody gets pestered.
  5. Every finished customer gets the same ask. Not only the ones you think will be happy. That's Google's rule (see below), and it's fairer.

Google review request email template

Hi [name],

Thanks for choosing [business]. If you've got a minute, a short Google review would really help others find us: [review link]

Thanks, [your name]

Short, one link, one ask. No "5 stars please".

How to ask for Google reviews from customers, the right way

Google's policy says businesses must not:

  • Ask only happy customers. The policy calls it selectively soliciting positive reviews.
  • Discourage or block bad reviews.
  • Give anything in return, like a discount or a free item.
  • Pressure people to leave one while they're on the premises.

Read Google's policy on fake and misleading content before you start. An automated ask that goes to everyone, with nothing in return, keeps you inside it.

What a quiet review page costs

When someone searches for what you do near them, your reviews are often the first thing they see. Few reviews, or old ones, and they pick the business with more. Every customer you forget to ask is a review that never happens.

Three steps

  1. Tell us how you finish with a customer now.
  2. We build the review request workflow and test it.
  3. Every customer gets asked, without you remembering.

FAQ

Questions about getting Google reviews

How do I get my Google review link?

It's in your Google Business Profile. Look for the option to ask for reviews, and Google gives you a link and a QR code you can share.

When is the best time to ask for a review?

Soon after the work is done, while it's fresh. A day later works for most businesses. Too late and they've moved on.

Can I offer a discount for a review?

No. Google doesn't allow anything in return for a review. Just ask, and make it easy.

Should I only ask customers I know were happy?

No. Google's rules say ask everyone, not just the happy ones. It's simpler too, because the workflow just asks every finished customer.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the workflow. On the free call we look at it together, and you know the price before anything starts.

How many customers did you forget to ask last month?

A free call, and we'll set up the ask so it goes out every time.
